[A Venerable Legend] Delbert McClinton

最近被這老頭迷住了; Delbert McClinton, 德州地區的傳奇人物, 50年代末陸續幫Jimmy Reed、Lightnin' Hopkins等諸位大腳吹口琴, 甚至還當過John Lennon的老師; 1972年的Los Angeles是Delbert歌手生涯起點, 期間與Glen Clark合作組成Delbert & Glen, 並發行了兩張專輯; 兩年後Delbert回到德州開始發行個人專輯, 自此便逐漸成為德州鄉村音樂的代表人物之一.

Delbert McClinton的音樂多以Blues或country為根源, 必要時再加以Rock & Roll點綴, 2009年發行的Acquired Taste中更是展現了大師風範; "People Just Love to Talk" 即為專輯中相當搶眼的一首歌, 用小酒館編制來呈現略帶嘻皮的歌詞的確相當合適; "Until Then" 裡電吉他的彈奏更是令人欣賞, 主歌中先是用溫潤的音色在反拍做補償; 進到副歌, 破音加重, 在主唱的樂句間形成了很好的搭配, 並一直延伸到隨後的鍵盤Solo; 穿插一小段的拍手後, 吉他開始浮出旋律之外, 與鍵盤做很漂亮的堆疊, 直到漸弱後結束, 整首歌聽來不只有趣, 鮮明的層次讓人有如親臨現場, 也想跟著歡呼叫好!

2009/08/14, Les Paul, 史上最重要的吉他手之一在紐約病逝, 享年94歲.

Keith Richards: "He actually taught himself to play guitar in order to demonstrate his electronic theories. All of us owe an unimaginable debt to his work and his talent."

Paul Stanley: "The name Les Paul is iconic and is known by aspiring and virtuoso guitar players worldwide. That guitar is the cornerstone of a lot of great music that has been made in the last 50 years."

Henry Juskiewicz: "He was a futurist, and unlike some futurists who write about it and predict things, he was a guy who actually did things."

Les Paul對搖滾樂的貢獻, 不僅是在1949~1962年間與妻子Mary Ford一同錄製的暢銷專輯上, 同時, 1952年與Gibson合作而推出的Solid-body Electric Guitar: Gibson Les Paul Series Gibson Les Paul Series更被稱為是"paved the way for electric music made the sound of rock and roll possible"; 此外, 包含在吉他彈奏技巧上的創新與錄音技術上的突破, Les Paul都扮演著絕對重要的推手角色.
